Aw, crap. I think I may have come up with a worst-case scenario either pre- or post- World War Z.

A carrier.

A "sleeper zombie," if you will. Remember 28 Weeks Later*, how there was that genetic trait that allowed them to carry but not be affected by the Rage Plague? Look how primates transmit dozens of deadly diseases that they are immune to, but we're not. Hell, there are people that are immune to HIV. To top it off, look at the woman in Russia at the end of World War Z. It's world repopulation time. You do the math as to how this could spread.

Hell, nobody has to be infected to cause widespread death- people would go apeshit if suddenly anyone could be a zombie just waiting to infect people. I'm sure they'd figure out a way to screen it, but they'll never get everybody.

*YES I KNOW THIS IS NOT A ZOMBIE MOVIE.

I have my very first booksigning this Friday at Magus Books in Minneapolis. They are the biggest occult store in the Twin Cities and one of the biggest on-line ones, too. It's owned by a man who is originally from England and has a marvelous British accent and charm. He really knows his stuff, too.

I'm planning on bringing treats to the event and am thinking cookies and mini-scones. It just crossed my mind to bring napkins, as well. Since the bookcover is greenish, maybe I should bring green napkins to match. :)

Has anyone read The Crooked Path Journal issue #1 yet? I just got my copy and haven't had time yet except to flip through it. Lovely cover, though, and nice layout.

What with the signing, I'm wondering how to begin the little talk that will go along with it. Beginning with the beginning sounds like a good idea, but I'm open to any suggestions. Currently, that would mean starting with when the Goddess of the North, Ardwena, first showed up and began teaching us about all this. It does have a nice story attached to that, so I'm leaning towards that thought.

Hm....yep, Ardwena was the first to show up and, shortly thereafter, She woke up another Goddess, the Goddess of the East and of the Fey. Some of the Gods and Goddesses had been awake already, but it kind of went like that with the ones who weren't. One Goddess woke up another and one God woke up another. The whole thing snowballed and we ended up with over 20 of them (and its still growing so far as I know).

This is the The The song that the Spaceape slid into during last night’s gig.

This is from the album INFECTED. In fact, this video is from the “video album” for INFECTED — they shot a video for every track on the album and released it as a videotape, the first time this had been done (at least by a mainstream recording artist). I used to have it. INFECTED was an interesting album not only for its frank anti-American bent, which you didn’t see much of in the pop charts of 1986, but because it was a clear breakpoint for Matt Johnson. The troubled romantic balladeer of “Uncertain Smile” can be clearly seen to go stark raving mad on INFECTED, and he was never the same afterwards.

I’m tempted to link half the album: “Heartland” is a swaggering excoriation of British life of the period, “Angels Of Deception” has a beautiful refrain, and “Slow Train To Dawn” is a poisonous duet with Neneh Cherry.

Anyway. This was the cover. And I loved this album in 1986. It reminds me of the pure philosophical hate only a teenager can really summon, and of walking to my girlfriend’s house with a cheap Walkman-knockoff on…
