So is it stated by SG Toshi in YouTube. Now, the question arises: is it real?

Sad to say, the initial thrill only lasted the first 15 seconds of the film.  For starters, the shape of his jaw's sides is not quite right; then, the interviewer's voice does not sund like a 1933 jounalist. After that, I thought, he sounds very odd -I'm told it is a New Orleans accent; I wouldn't know, but it certainly is not what Howard would have had! Then it hit me -in 1933, Lovecraft would have been 43 years old! This guy in the film is twenty at most and there was no way they would have interviewed him for a newsreel with sound in 1910, much less as a writer! In fact, the name SG Toshi is a dead giveaway (a take on Lovecraft scholar abd biographer ST Joshi, who reivindicated HPL from having been decamped by Sprague de Camp's libellography), but I only saw it out of the corner of my eye and didn't notice the clever shift in letters, which is obviously the point.

Also, he is way too optimistic about the future of cinema near the end, and the questions are too obviously fanservice. A good piece all in all, as a kind of "what if" that gave me a good time. William Gibson had a fit when he saw it, and blogged it around right away. He said later, when he cooled down:

“I guess I so wanted to believe that that was Lovecraft that I managed to ignore the actor’s complete lack of HPLoid bone-structure. (Lovecraft was one distinctively-jawed New Englander.)

Faking elder footage on YouTube, though, has great potential as a form.”

-which, by the way, I happen to agree. The Blair Witch Project upped the standards for ellaborated pseudoepigrapha and it is always good to see a new sample of this genre -which, as we all know, was nursed into maturity by the Lovecraft Circle, even if Latin-American pseudo-intellectual wankers are bent on calling it "Borgesian" and crediting Borges with the whole thing.

Legions of HPL readers and cthulhuists are swarming there to watch grandpa Theobald and whining about what they find. Me, I am thankful for at least the precious seconds of "what if it's authentic?" right before clicking on it. Also, I love these little and very lovecraftian, games. I hope they, or somebody else, do an improved version sooner or later.
